what to do....

I bought these beads a while ago and because I bought them online they turned out to be a lot bigger than I imagined in my head! I had bought them with the intention of making a bracelet but I'm thinking now that they're maybe a bit too chunky for this?

They're amathyst but have veins of varying colours through them too so vary from deep dark purple to light lilacs, whites and brown tones.

I'm hoping someone has a bright idea to give me some inspiration! Leave me a comment with your suggestions...

  1. How about a nice chunky necklace? Something classy and simple. I mean, the stones themselves are so pretty and full of nuances that they would be perfect to use in simple designs.

It's always the thing when ordering online: you can never be sure what you're going to get in the end. Sometimes it's the blessing, sometimes a curse. :)

I'll check back to see what you made! Greetings from Frankfurt am Main, Germany,

  2. They're lovely. How about making one as a focal on a bracelet? Or you could use a few of them, with smaller beads inbetween - that wouldn't be 'too much', I reckon it'd look lovely! xx

  5. I empahise sometimes it is so hard to envisage the size of beads even if they put a measurement down. I can see them wire wrapped. Sivler wire in coils over the beads and silver links between them, making them more delicate. You can do one as a pendant - the coil would add interest too.

  6. If you space with something smaller you might have enough for a neckace and a bracelet. They look lovely, I love amethyst.

  7. Thanks all so far - great ideas, there's quite a lot of the beads so might be able to try a few things.

I'm awful when it comes to imagining the size of something - I'm sure the listing did give measurements but my head didn't picture the actual size at all!

I do like the idea of wire-wrapping them, I want to experiment more with wire wrapping, hmmm...

  8. The beads are so fantastic that they would look great simply beaded with a heavy clasp to finish it off. Maybe use a large metal spacer between every 2 for a little extra pizzazz. Have fun with the beads!

  9. I know this might sound strange but how about one on the end of a bathroom light switch pull-cord!......well you asked for ideas lol

People do go for that sort of thing ;)

  10. mick I do think that's a good idea, someone else suggested doing mobiles or wall hangings with these on a cord too.

  11. Completely agree with mobiles and wall hangings. I think that they would look good and be admired as an everyday item like that rather than jewellery. I could gaze at those beads for hours...nothing comes close to what nature gives us.

  12. I'd make several dangly earrings with maybe some crystal or metal accents... and then a matching necklace or bracelet with lots of metallic beads to space it out. Your beads really remind me of fluorite. Hope you get to use them in a fun way!
